When NIST speaks, we listen, and encourage all businesses to do likewise. NIST, of course, is the National Institute for Standards and Technology, whose cybersecurity framework and best practices are central to TeamLogic IT’s own service offerings. Recently, amidst growing interest in the Internet of Things (IoT), NIST released the first in a planned series of reports aimed at helping IoT users–mainly federal agencies and other large entities–identify and mitigate security and privacy risks. The 34-page report’s high-level goals also apply to smaller firms interested in IoT implementations:
1) Protect device security.
2) Protect the security of data, and
3) Protect individuals’ privacy.
Each goal in the inaugural report features two to five additional risk-mitigation components, such as vulnerability management, data protection and information-flow management. You can search online for the report, NISTIR 8228: Considerations for Managing IoT Cybersecurity & Privacy Risks, or call a local TeamLogic IT office to learn more.
